We are happily recovering from organising our fun night fundraising for the Physio Pool – it was a great night of FUNdraising and thanks to everyone who came and danced up a storm with us and Catgut and Steel (Anna and Mike) who were teaching us “called” dances, so that all of our 300 attendees at Forbury Park Function Centre mixed and mingled very quickly. Not only did we manage to have fun whilst fundraising, we managed to raise over $20,000 for the Physio Pool – I am not sure of the final figure just yet as we still await a couple of accounts, but I know we are over our goal of $20,000, so YIPPEE and MAJOR thanks to all of you who were there, helped me whenever I tapped you on the shoulder asking for a favour, gave sponsorship to help fund the catering expenses on the night, and especially to my great friends who gave me that positive encouragement throughout the 6 weeks of organising and the beautiful job they made on the day to get the room ready for the night!! Our lovely patient Gail Caldwell told us about Catgut and Steel, and not only that, she and husband Paul played and sang for us prior to Mike and Anna starting, so we are also very grateful for their great input. I am keeping the link about the dance live until early August, as I know there are so many Dunedin people who would still like to give to the pool, and it is so easy to donate through this site www.PhysioPoolDance.co.nz, : just select “0” tickets, then choose the amount you would like to “Sponsor” from the list available, or alternatively you can just google “Physio Pool Fundraising Dance” and you will find the same site that way to donate. Every cent you donate is going to the Physio Pool Trust, as all our catering expenses are well covered by our superb Major Sponsors: Orthopaedic Services (a group of our Dunedin Orthopaedic Surgeons: John Matheson, John Dunbar, Michael Chin, Chris Birks and Gary McCoubrey), Simon McMahon (another of our Orthopaedic Surgeons) and wife Kate, Mercy Hospital, School of Physiotherapy, Jim Byars of Highgate Bridge, Metro Realty, Rutter Architectural Design, and your own Caversham Physiotherapy: all our “Diamond or Platinum Sponsors” for the night. We also had key companies who helped make this successful: Forbury Park with their free venue, Forbury Bar & Grill (kindly offering us a % of bar sales from the night), Just Essence Catering and Veggie Boys, Catgut and Steel, Centre City New World (free bubbles and juice on entry), Ritchies (Iain Campbell driving and providing a bus to get everyone quickly from watching the Highlanders at The Stadium to us at Forbury), Core Development, Immersion Marketing and Southern Colour Print for all our printing needs ……. Actually the list is endless so THANK YOU DUNEDIN for your fabulous support!! – much appreciated.
Virtually everyone I approached I can say gave generously of their product or time to help put this together. There is just SO MUCH support for the Physio Pool – it is certainly well loved by Dunedin. There was only one memorable shop during my frantic Thursday when I toured town to ask everyone for a tiny donation of an item or voucher of $5 or less, who unfortunately stated that “Sorry, we are an Australian-owned company, and don’t donate for local fundraising”….., and then when I suggested it could just be something in their “going out bin”, the very nice girls helpfully suggested “Sorry no we can’t, but try Arthur Barnett – they are local”….. – interesting (!), as poor Arthur Barnett, who are certainly in challenging times did generously give a couple of lovely items for our Silent Auction. It yet again reinforced for me just how vital it is to BUY LOCAL and SUPPORT OUR LOCAL DUNEDIN BUSINESSES – as when the chips are down (and even when the chips are not down, and these companies are hugely successful in Dunedin, as this one is!!) these companies are not interested in supporting our local community. On the flip side, everyone else was so AWESOMELY generous, including Brendon McCullum, Ben Smith, and Tony Brown, who each kindly agreed to give 1 hour of their time over brunch as three of my Silent Auction prizes on the night of the dance – and we were thrilled 2 of our 3 lucky winners were friends and Caversham Physio patients. Our ongoing raffle contains some amazing vouchers and items for you to win when drawn in 6 weeks, so do make sure you pop in and buy some tickets if you have not got any already: ($10 for 5 tickets, or $3 for 1 ticket) and I will also be selling these at the Farmers Market on Saturday 4 July. It will be drawn at the next Physio Pool fundraiser: The Casino Night on Saturday 8 August, being organised by Ingrid O’Connell at the St Kilda Bowling Club.
So do please continue to show your support for the Pool, as if we all make a small contribution, it will make a HUGE difference to this last push for fundraising to keep this amazing facility. This pool is such a beneficial place for the whole of our Dunedin community, and don’t forget we have referral letters here at the clinic for everyone who is currently a patient to enable you to get a cheaper swim as part of your treatment: make the most of that, however you certainly don’t have to be injured to exercise in this pool. It is available to the public on: Mon-Fri 6.30 – 9.30am, 11am-6.45pm, and on the weekends 8-11.45am ($40 for 10 swims for those with a referral, or $50 for 10 swims for all others – ie it’s VERY REASONABLE!! and in Dunedin’s weather, it is hard to beat the pleasure of exercising in 35degrees right in the centre of town. Do try it out if you have not been there yet – and especially all of you who danced with us on 20 June, make sure you use that free swim voucher you received with your dance ticket!!
